Setting Fitness Goals (Part One)

I have been working with new clients on setting fitness and weight loss goals!  I’m sure you've all heard of SMART goals and probably already use them on a regular basis!  This was such a big topic for me the last few weeks I thought I would share more with all of you.  If, by chance, you haven't heard of SMART goals before I will explain a bit more.

SMART =

Specific – What are you looking to accomplish?

Measurable – What steps do you need to take to accomplish your goal?  Breaking down your goal into measurable steps will keep you on track to achieving the goal.

Achievable/Attainable – Is the goal attainable in the time you have set with the commitment level you have toward achieving it?

Relevant – Is the goal significant to other goals you have in your life?

Timely – What is the time frame you will use to measure your goal?  Break the big goal down into smaller goals with shorter time frames.

Each of us is in a different place in life and we have different long term goals, but good nutrition and a fit life are common throughout as the ongoing goal. Whether you’re recovering from an injury or surgery, you’re expecting a new addition, dealing with chronic disease or pain SMART goals will help you!

As wives/significant others, husbands, fathers, mothers, executives and professionals we owe it to ourselves to treat our bodies the right way.  Even if you only have 10 minutes to devote to physical activity a couple times a day, you will see benefits very quickly.

What are your thoughts? What are your struggles?  If you'd like to join one of my private accountability groups online, let me know.  We are all in this together!
